May 23, 2020 Structure Fire

On Saturday, May 23rd at 21:17 the Esopus Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke in the structure at 1825 Route 9W in West Park. The first arriving unit was on the scene within 6 minutes and found smoke coming from the 2nd floor of an apartment building. Firefighters were able to quickly confine the fire to a space between the 1st and 2nd floor and extinguish the fire within an hour. Firefighters evacuated 19 occupants from 8 apartments with the assistance of the New York State Police and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office. All occupants were able to reoccupy the building within 2 hours of the incident. A fire investigation was completed in conjunction with the Ulster County Fire Investigation Unit and deemed to be accidental. The Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad was requested to the scene for standby but there were no injuries to any residents or firefighters on the scene.
 

Esopus Firefighters were assisted by the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad, the Ulster County Fire Investigation Unit, the Town of Esopus Building Department, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.
 

Firefighters were able to control the fire due to the quick thinking and 911 call from the residents. Remember, if there is a fire, do not delay, CALL 911.
