On Friday November 8th, 2025, at 1414hrs (2:14pm) Esopus Fire Department was dispatched for a reported brush fire secondary to a wire arcing in the area of 1042 Route 9W in Esopus. On arrival units found a rapidly growing brush fire with an exposure to a large wooden fence being fanned by winds and dry conditions. With access being limited due to live wires down and a tree on wires with active arcing and fire in the tree; crews were able to access the back side of the fire and kept the exposure from becoming involved with fire. Crews worked to create and keep a fire line around the fire and awaited Central Hudson to arrive and terminate power to the area to allow final extinguishment and overhaul. A total area of brush, approximately 150’x25’, was damaged by fire with no damage to any structure or exposures. Fire equipment on scene included 1 engine, 1 brush truck, 1 water tanker (tender), 1 rescue and 1 command vehicle.
While units were operating at the scene of the brush fire an additional call in our district came in for a fire alarm. We were able to free an engine from the brush fire to responded to the fire alarm. That turned out to be a system malfunction from water in a detector. One engine operated at the fire alarm scene. All units were in service from both calls by 1600hrs (4:00pm)
We would like to thank Central Hudson Gas and Electric for their rapid response as well as the New York State Police who assisted with traffic control and of course Ulster County 911 for their assistance throughout both incidents.
